Development of Juche-oriented Education

Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung made public the immortal classic work "Theses on Socialist Education" on September 5, 1977.

The work comprehensively deals with all problems arising in education, including the basic principles of pedagogy and the contents and methods of socialist education.

The publication of the theses was an epoch-making event that brought about a new turning point in the development of education in the DPRK.

True to the noble intention of respected fatherly Marshal Kim Jong Un to train the rising generations into reliable pillars of the socialist country, the DPRK's education is now writing a proud history of its development as the most advantageous and ideal one that can be entrusted with guaranteeing the future of the country.

The universal 12-year compulsory education has been enforced, the optional curriculum and the system of voluntarily selecting subjects introduced at senior middle schools and the educational contents put on a more concrete, diversified and practical basis. Like this, a great change has been made in the education of the DPRK.

Amid the nationwide and social attention and support, many school buildings have been newly built across the country and education has been put on an IT and modern basis to radically improve the appearance of educational institutions. And the tele-education system was established to consolidate the solid foundation for making all the people well versed in science and technology.

Schoolchildren's palaces, children's camps and primary and middle schools for orphans were successfully built in different parts of the country. And homemade school uniforms, things, bags and shoes are supplied to the schoolchildren across the country. This is the proud reality that can be found only in the socialist system of the DPRK which gives priority to education and puts it forward as the first state affair.

The DPRK brings earlier the future of a powerful socialist country and guarantees the eternal future by making a new turn in education. It is developing into an educational power and talent power with each passing day. -0-

Also KCNA has published like a dozen articles in the past 4 days about a '15th National Conference of Teachers'. The article below describes that teachers should train all students to be 'strong talented persons who will make a contribution to the revolutionary practice'. The article describes a few teaching courses that teachers attended at the conference.

Participants in 15th National Conference of Teachers Take Short Course

Pyongyang, September 4 (KCNA) -- The participants in the 15th National Conference of Teachers received a short course on September 3.

Kim Sung Du, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Jon Sung Guk, vice-premier of the Cabinet, and Ri Yong Chol, minister of Education, gave them the short course.

The short course dealt with an issue arising in implementing to the letter the Party's educational policy of training all the students to be strong talented persons who will make a contribution to the revolutionary practice.

One of the lecturers stressed that our Party's policy on education is a great action program as it makes it possible to successfully attain the main goal of the educational revolution in the new century by bringing about a fresh turn in training talented persons and placing our education on a higher level in keeping with the requirement of the era for comprehensive development.

He also called on all the teachers to be fully aware that education requires conscience, devotion and patriotism, to fully prepare themselves as a true professional revolutionary with the noble traits which will always serve as an example of a genuine life, and to become a genuine teacher always respected and remembered by the disciples and a model teacher whose example is followed by students.

The short course also dealt with the ways of fundamentally eliminating the differences in educational level between the capital city and provinces and between urban and rural areas as required by the era of the comprehensive development of socialism.

The other lecturer stressed the need for all the educational workers to draw up scientific and workable plans for raising the educational level of the local and rural areas and carry out them to the letter, bearing in mind that it is their own important job to train talented persons who are capable of propelling the development of the relevant areas.

Another subject of the short course was to push ahead with the work to perfectly modernize all the educational foundations of the country.

A lecturer appealed to all the officials to be well aware of the important measures taken by the state to radically consolidate the material and technical foundations of the educational sector and fulfill their responsibility and duty in perfecting the educational foundations.

The participants heard the good deeds and experience of the units that have remained true to the Party's educational policy by dedicating their sincere efforts to strengthening the educational foundations as devoted parents of students and sponsors with a sense of duty that they share the same responsibility for education with educators. The short course referred to the measures to be taken to give full play to the social trait of treating teachers preferentially and render material and moral assistance to the educational sector. -0-
