Any economic damage taken by America would be at least matched in Europe, so EU leadership (and citizens) would have to be willing to throw their own economies into a depression to do the same to the US, assuming it's even possible to do so. That aside, I doubt even that scenario would stop Trump and co.

    Any European nation that bucked the US dollar and trade would immediately be courted by China and a few other nations that want to open trade up there, China LOVES throwing money at an economy to make nations beholden to them to ensure a long term relationship and trade partnership. Just ask Africa. European nations might actually do BETTER if they took that deal than they’re doing now, because clearly being allies with us isn’t doing shit for them.
