I saw that one country voted against it and kept saying, “please not the US, please not the US”…but alas…here we are. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] Supercrunchy@programming.dev 3 points 1 hour ago I saw the news a few days earlier before the vote finalized, and I was already betting on the US voting against. Anything involving the word "equality" is too woke for them. Btw the US has been voting against basic rights and progressive policies for a while, I don't expect anything good out of them anymore. 2021: food - https://hrnews1.substack.com/p/the-un-voted-to-make-food-a-human 2026: slavery - https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/us-votes-against-un-resolution-calling-slavery-crime-humanity-rcna265240 2026: woman's rights - https://judithdayal.substack.com/p/the-world-voted-for-womens-rights 2025: condemning russia invasion of Ukraine: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2025/02/24/united-nations-ukraine-russia-trump/ 2025: veto the UN security council on asking for a ceasefire in Gaza: https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/09/1165881 And btw a lot of these proposals were relatively spineless non-binding agreements. But this whole, Africa needs justice for appearing smaller on a map, I cried tears of joy etcetc this is about social justice etc what a load of wank permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Supercrunchy@programming.dev 1 point 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 child) If you want to hear "the map is more accurate" from someone, I can tell you that the map is more accurate, unless you want to navigate or fly over the oceans. Every map is imperfect, but the usual map you see everywhere (Mercator) was made for seafaring, not land usage. The new projection they voted for is new, so they probably considered a different compromise of objectives, and it doesn't take much to be better than Mercator. Ask yourself why the entire world voted for it, except the usual regressive country. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 0 points 1 hour ago* If you want to hear “the map is more accurate” from someone No I'm aware the map is more accurate, my argument was that this should be a map update not a social justice conquest, as if somehow this will make 1 bit of difference to this: https://aussie.zone/comment/24819784 permalink fedilink source parent
