[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 21 hours ago (2 children) Were there other steps between first blood and death? Surrender I guess? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] A_be_seedy@beehaw.org 1 point 17 hours ago (1 child) I believe Hamilton had a 10 step approach to duels to the death. There were about 9 stages of varying surrenders and draws leading up to the death. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Aatube@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 16 hours ago (1 child) This is a misinterpretation of “Ten Duel Commandments”, which does not mention a 10-step nor a 9-stage approach for the duel itself, but the process of setting it up, of which at any point one may chicken out. The segment’s formulation of the process as ten points (which I’ll reproduce here from Wikipedia) is original but apparently does nicely sum up the rules: Demand satisfaction. No dueling is necessary if they apologize. If they do not apologize, choose someone to act as your second, your lieutenant. Have your seconds negotiate a resolution, or the location and date for the duel. If a duel is settled, choose your weapons and have a doctor present. Duel before dawn. Write a note for your next of kin. Confess your sins. Once again, have your seconds attempt to negotiate peace. Aim no higher than the dueler's eye. Count ten paces, then fire. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] A_be_seedy@beehaw.org 1 point 16 hours ago (1 child) OK bubba. Please learn how to formulate your own thought instead of AI. But in your hubris to correct me with Wikipedia, you forgot about the musical Hamilton... permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Aatube@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 16 hours ago (1 child) i’m not using AI 😭 your comment makes it sound like the duel itself and not the preparation has nine stages, and that it only stops with death when they just fire I’m a bit confused about your second paragraph. I am talking about Ten Duel Commandments from the musical Hamilton. The list is Wikipedia’s summary of the number/song. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] A_be_seedy@beehaw.org 1 point 7 hours ago (1 child) Oh, so youre being pedantic. You use something that hurts but doesn't draw blood. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 1 point 14 hours ago I've fenced with blunted rapiers, that's just a sport. No i think the danger has to be real to count, with proper swords, type to be either agreed upon by both parties or even better run what ya brung, and have at it. Combatants might yet be mortally wounded, but it's not a predetermined outcome. permalink fedilink source parent [–] WolfLink@sh.itjust.works 2 points 20 hours ago That’s less than first blood permalink fedilink source parent
