The news story is from 3 days ago. Also canals in the UK don’t have strong currents and the max depth where he drowned was only 5 foot in the middle, even shallower near the sides. Nearly all canals in the UK are only about 1 metre deep in the middle. Look it up and look up photos of drained canals in the UK if you don't believe me lol

But if the canals are really shallow, doesn't it stand to reason that he could hit his head on the bottom and become unconscious and drown?

Not really enough details to cry foul on this one...

    At 5 feet deep you wouldn't hit your head on the bottom, and the bottom is mud, so not exactly a hard surface to bang your head on.

    So the water is so shallow any man could stand up and have their head out of the water, but so deep that if they went in head first they wouldn't hit their head, and the ground is so soft that they wouldn't even hit their head hard, but solid enough that they wouldn't have trouble staying upright? Got it.
