Absolutely, and that PieFed fork is coming along quite nicely with a bunch of small features that even PieFed lacks, quite exciting! (And the maintainers are currently looking for more to do, so let them know what you might want to see from it? e.g. I asked for it to show downvotes alongside upvotes and that's already implemented, it's so quick!!!! Changes in Lemmy take like 2 to >5 years, while PieFed & PyLova are both like days to months, its fantastic!!)

A couple things I will say in PieFed's defense is that a LOT of the criticism against it is outright misinformation, and actually it is mostly quite friendly in not only NOT hard-coding filters (as people have claimed but the evidence proved the opposite) but also outright making the provided filters as the most optional feature type imaginable - specifically opt-in.

The vote quota is a departure from that, being opt-out, and also in defiance of massive community push-back. It seems to be boosting the signal that the main dev has been sending for awhile now as in a shift away from Reddit-esque "social media" e.g. shitposting memes and more towards... I dunno, maybe Mastodon serious conversations? The important thing being that all instance admins would now need to be on their guard for "improvements" that are virtually unannounced and simply snuck into the code along with other things. Though all FOSS is that way, and Lemmy is no exception.

The Threadiverse is maturing now, with multiple software options and people holding one another to account. I'm so proud! 😁
