First Linux (Ubuntu). Question on mapping drive letters (lemmy.ca)

I need to map network shares from my Synology NAS and also from a Win11 Pro desktop. There are just so many variations on how to do this. All I need to do is map drive letters to shares on startup so they are always available.

Sorry for the noob question.

Ok, two things:
1 - Do you NEED to map them? Or do you just need to access them? If they were previously shared with Windows, that means they are SMB shares, which on most file managers can be accessed via the network section or by writing smb://<user>@<address> in the location bar. This doesn't work perfectly all the time, for example if you want to drag and drop a file from the share onto a browser upload page, it usually doesn't work.
2 - Have you successfully mounted them with mount already?

    To keep it simple, I am migrating a Windows PC running Sonarr to an Ubuntu PC. So looks like I need samba to access the windows shares. I now see Linux doesn't use drive letters, so I mount the windows share to a mount point on Ubuntu. 2. No, haven't done anything yet, just reading and trying to understand the differences.

    My goal is to have: Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Immich, tautulli, qbittorrent all running on this Linux box. There's no way my poor Synology could do that, so I'll keep them together. Thanks for the references, I'll take a look.

    idk about tautulli, and immich can be taxing depending on what you enable I think, but everything else is lightweight. Anyway, did you manage to set up the mountpoint? After that if you run *arr apps, those are likely in docker/podman so you'll have to add the directory to their configuration.yaml

    My nas is extremely old, I'd rather not put apps on it, plus I already purchased this mini pc.

    So, doing some searching, I decided to give my list of apps I needed to copilot and see what came back. The AI answer is I should 100% use Docker to run all the apps on the Linux box. Feel free to jump in and disagree if you think otherwise.

    So now, I am going to do the reading to install docker, and then move to installing the ARR containers. Other than the mount points, any cons I should be aware of with this scenario?

    Well, containerization can mess with GPU acceleration if you want to use Immich's auto-description-whatever-function. Also mind that docker runs as root, so don't just spin up random containers from unknown sources.
