his lies are shameless, to be so brazenly false and to do it in a way that telegraphs that he fears no consequence (no immediate one will be likely to find him). it's the psychology of an entity that would never feel guilt.

    Oh, I totally agree. I just don't like seeing this talked about as "selling people out". He has genuinely never been on the side of the people he's hurting, so it's not a betrayal, and as I say I think it elides the class character of the relationship he has with workers/the nation as a whole to act as though it is a betrayal.
