Blackout one night up in the mountains. Whole island has gone dark. Next island too. Noticed the majesty of the Milky Way in all it's glory.

Not a faint shadow, or a slightly bright smear, a glowing bright wide trail extending from horizon to horizon.

I may never see such a thing again. It shook me.

We've crippled ourselves as a species by depriving ourselves of the stars.

    I feel genuinely sad the modern world has us miss out on something as beautiful as the stars in all their glory, something that always promised wonder longer than we've been a sentient species.

    For uncountable millenia, the milky way was the standard night time viewing, and we've lost it in the last couple centuries :(
