First we have blinky bill and his ghost cave… i was like 3 and was scared by everything even a benign pc game, i actually struggle to remember exactly what it was that I was even afraid of.

Next up was 40 winks cos like its spooky

Next up is soul reaver 2 specifically watching my dad play this section collecting the coloured hearts and having them beating and bleeding all over the floor

Scooby doo classic creep capers on the gba very specifically the shaggy clones genuinely terrfied me. Also this is probably one of the best scooby doo games ever made absolutely recommend playing.

I cant find a single good photo of it somehow cos google search is fucked but silent hill 2 ps2 demo in woodside apartments. Idk how or why i had a demo disc for silent hill 2 but i thought the healing drinks were ketchup bottles and id reboot the console when id hear the static and shuffling from the first enemy and spent half my childhood wondering what was stuck in the trash chute.

Trash chute JPEG living rent free in my head for years

Funnily enough I've never been scared by a game

Though I'll ask you, have you had a game scare you now that you're older?

Yeah but I have always been able to get immersed in horror it just sucks me in completely. Teenage years I was absorbed by Silent hill 5 (it has its moments), penumbra, amnesia. Then P.T. came out which is still my favourite horror experience, soma (more existential lonely fear) and resi 7, 8 and 9 all have great moments.

I find the amnesia type games lost their effect on me after a while because they last too long like alien isolation starts horrifying but then the alien just gets annoying. Routine was my favourite release in this genre because its the perfect length and the entity is the most disconcerting thing that also shifts in and out of invisibility had me scream a few times.

It just captures my imagination ynow? I always wanted to be a horror writer like clive barker but then instant messaging decayed my ability to actually write

I've played most of the silent hills, Resi and Siren series along with a load of others, I enjoy the atmosphere of the games despite them not scaring me. I am desensitized so it's not really surprising but I do sometimes wish some stuff could scare me like you describe y'know.

Have you ever tried to unpack why? Or just don’t scare easily? I’ve played basically every horror game under the sun and I can still feel a little tense playing some janky flash game from years ago. I’ll inject you with some fear
