And it's a square crimper because it's simply better for wire ferrules. Hexagonal crisper are for coaxial cables.

No square sucks harder to fit in terminal blocks.

    Uh, no? It's the opposite.

    Source: I've used both at work. A larger diameter wire with square crimp will fit in a terminal block than a hexagonal crimp, and I prefer square crimp for this exact reason. The contact area inside a terminal block is flat, after all.
