Rpm is really more analogous to dpkg. Does the local work, doesn't talk to repositories.

Apt to...not yum anymore. checks Dnf.

I'm not sure which one would properly call a "package manager", the apt/dnf role or the rpm/dpkg role.

    rpm/dpkg is the package format. apt/dnf/zypper is the system that downloads, unarchives, and moves files into place.
