Why wouldn't the state let Marxists whose interpretations empower the status quo just barely dodge the axe while cutting down those whose ideas have teeth? Realistically, any current of Marxism that "has fought for generations" will have had generations of evolutionary pressure applied to it, either domesticating it (labour) or rendering it a relatively harmless pest (far-left radicals).
