They should have been sending teams though the stargate with ATVs, motorcycles, etc. to ease their exploration. But no, they were always traveling on foot. Despite the many things wrong with Stargate Infinity, that was something it did right. Basically everyone had some personal transport vehicle, and they weren't always that futuristic.
