[–] velma@sh.itjust.works [S] 3 points 5 days ago (2 children) Seattle teachers are planning on striking? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Tujio@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 child) As far as I can tell, none of them want to strike. However, contract is up and negotiations aren't going well. Last I saw the district hasn't even offered a tentative agreement, so the teachers don't even have anything to vote on. There are only 3 bargaining meetings left on the schedule and voting is supposed to happen next week. The new superintendent is on the bargaining team (possibly in charge) and has admitted that he hasn't even read the existing contract. Disclaimer: not a teacher, just in the loop. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Nshrubs@mstdn.social 3 points 5 days ago @Tujio @velma Truth! Neither Seattle teachers nor the teachers in my district have any desire to strike, but all we're getting from district admin is takebacks & micro-managing of time. We'd all much prefer to start school with a contract that isn't insulting (which is all district admin has brought forth in both districts), but trainings started this week, meetings next week, then school starts that following week & none of us have seen anything offered, so 🤷♀️. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Nshrubs@mstdn.social 3 points 5 days ago (1 child) @velma I'm not in SPS, but their bargaining is going just as poorly as in my district, so it would not surprise me. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] velma@sh.itjust.works [S] 4 points 5 days ago Gotcha. Keep on fighting! I've always been on the side of teachers, y'all have such an important job. permalink fedilink source parent
