Tbh I've always has better luck with Proton versus native builds.

And it is true that performance via Proton can be better than on Windows, so it isn't accurate that there is a performance penalty. In my experience it's usually the opposite. Shader precaching is one major reason.

    Windows is so bad that running a windows game through proton on linux can generally be faster. However, running the game natively on linux should be even faster than using proton. If companies cared about linux, we could have even more performance than we already do.
