News just came out that Nicholas Hoult is joining the season 2 Harry Potter cast.

I like him and a lot of things he's been in and didn't see it anywhere on Lemmy yet, so I posted it to lemmy.world's News community.

Post was a link to the article that first broke the news, used it's title as my post title, followed all instance and community rules.

Post was removed as "not news" and I was temp banned for "multiple rule violations." Of course the mod can't list what rules those would be, because it didn't violate any of them. If the News community only allows posts on certain news topics then it should specify those in it's rules.

This is actually worse than Reddit. At least Reddit has so many users that when mods keep doing things like this it creates enough drama that they stop or end up replaced. Lemmy mods seem to remove anything they personally don't like and ban anyone who questions them.

It was reported numerous times for being off topic.

Pop culture really needs it's own community. I think it deserves to be here, but in a place people want it.

I try to let the community help decide what belongs. The more diverse the reports, the more likely it doesn't belong. That's why we have the "... at moderators discretion" in the rule.

So why the ban?

Then it might be prudent to add no pop culture to the rules.

As it is, you allow some and not others and that’s confusing for users.

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
