Personally I think the stuff you're making is sick and I think you’re already doing great work, and I think you're going about it in a cool way too! I really like the mindset you're bringing to your creative endeavors, except for the "but it never meets my (probably impossible) standards" part which I totally get, I suffer from that a lot too, especially if I try my hand at something more traditional with lots of direct comparisons easily possible. Plus theres that thing where people who like art and have a good eye for it and can appreciate quality stuff, usually develop that discerning eye early in life, and so by the time you are trying your hands at stuff, especially if that happens later in adulthood, you have very advanced critical eye, and very UNadvanced skills because its still new and developing. It feels fucking gross tbh I get it, but I just keep reminding myself that that is NOT how this works, its not a pass fail situation

I think your stuff is weird and interesting and your own style straight from your own brain, if you don’t know what you’re doing thats fine, you’re exploring and experimenting! (and I repeat, I think theres something really compelling in what you've been making recently, I really like the stuff you posted!)

If you feel drawn to these shapes and patterns youve been making but feel they’re unfinished, maybe its because this isn’t the right medium? you could try adding color using a bunch of different stuff, colored pencils, water color, inks, charcoal, even crayons, maybe one of them will add a dimension or texture you didn’t know you were thirsting for, or that compels you in some way

maybe it could be good to branch into other mediums entirely! I’m not sure if you’re dedicated completely to 2d art, digital or pen on paper, but personally I get so much joy from making physical things, currently I’d call very little of what I’ve made in the past few years art, but thats not true either and its all helping me build lots of modes of creativity that I’m gradually adding to my ability to use, so I can start to see the possibility of wild art projects I would never have thought of previously.

for example, I’ve been playing with making my own alloys from melted wires and aluminum cans, and blacksmithing, so I could take the pretty aluminum bronze alloy I found I like thats beautifully textured and gold colored and form that into a crown, and with the crap ass harbor freight gem cutting table I got, I can make gems and set them in the crown, if I ever do follow through on that project it will be one hell of an object! Idk what the fuck I'd ever do with it except just, have it, theres just something about the idea that calls to me

Anyway, long story short, I don’t just think that crown would be art, if I made it, but the whole process is my art. I try things and experiment and iterate and combine. Its not art anyone else can really see, but I’m still making it :)
