It's so interesting that people can pretty easily be sold on the idea of starting a war that will kills tens of thousands of people based on geography that won't really change much, but if you propose killing far fewer people in a move that will improve the quality of life for the majority of people on the planet suddenly you're a monster.

I'd prefer a worse fate for them.

Say, working a "9-5" grind until they die like the rest of us to contribute to the society they live in instead of leeching from it.
