Iirc he was a trot but sort of made a cult and fell out of favor with the international trot community (so they split like trots do), but regardless had a negative view of the Soviet Union on trot lines, so I don't think he was lying to make the SU look more impressive, I think it was an honest mistake, but what particularly produced the mistake?
