From a philosophical standpoint it was a necessity that in a universe with physics as ours, matter one day arranges itself on such a high order, that life is created. We don’t know of any „soul“ or something similar, and we’ve found life on earth in the most extreme places. So life can’t just be a coincidence. Logically thinking that means that there exists life outside of earth too.

Now the more important question is: was does that change for us? And at least for us currently the answer is: nothing. This is not beneficial to us in our class struggle. It doesn’t help us make better strategic decisions. The youth organization in east Germany had some funny books about that, but even they came to the conclusion that this changes nothing. It’s nice to know that we are nothing special, but besides that, there is nothing we can gain from this currently.
