To play the devils advocate, 16 is the age of consent in Japan (where these anime are made). Pointing out the character is 16/17 is the equivalent of pointing out they're 18. Whether you agree with that morally is a different issue.

    I just don't want them to be in high school, man. Doesn't matter what country high schoolers have zero life experience and shouldn't be thought of as adults.

    I don't disagree with you, to be very very clear, but I find it fascinating how radically things have changed since I was a kid (and I'm just a millennial). We were flooded with messaging, left over from a time when highschool was the last step for most before the job market, about how highschool was where kids became adults. How many films from that time hype sexualized high schoolers?

    What the fuck their age is their age regardless of the age of consent. 16 year olds in Japan dont magically turn into 18 year olds to the rest of the world. I don't think that's at all equivalent
