Not sure if that is not playing into Putin's hands. He doesn't want his citizenry online and informed. He wants his Russian version of the internet, isolated from the rest of the world.

yeah and I wonder if it would reduce the troll farm traffic, not sure they rely on land lines, if they are based in Russia anyway

Most of them are not in Russia, It would be much easier to find and block them if they were all coming from the same country. Instead, they're scattered all over the place to blend in, and to take advantage of cheap labor.

Yes, but for the wealthy in Russia who get these luxuries, they will be pissed off. Change in Russia has always come from within.

The real wealthy will go to Monaco or London, the wealthy will go to Egypt or Thailand. The mass will keep on struggling.
