I know how to add a picture but I was hoping there was a way to add a gif.

How are you trying to do it? Are you using an "insert image" button or something in Lemmy, or are you manually typing out ![](https://thelemmy.club/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Fimage.gif) or whatever in the text box?
