The years of lead were a low-burn civil war fought between fascists and communists in Italy. If he's calling it the American years of lead I would assume he is either a fascist or a communist, given he's siding with queer people I would say communist.

With that said I think his tactics are wrong and what people should be doing with 3d printing is designing useable defence drones rather than guns. If untraceable this would be far more valuable.

    Where would the flight controllers, fibre optic equipment, cameras, ESCs, motors, props, and batteries come from? Firearms are comparatively easy to construct, and other techniques commonly used by forces in a similar situation can have comparable utility to drones with much simpler logistical inputs.

    Don't need fibre optic unless you're doing something like illegal-to-say.

    Almost all of these parts are hobby shop acquirable in cash over the counter. Which makes things basically untraceable. The biggest benefit though is really bringing the cost down to parts, because for the average person that wants to do something like this the cost is the barrier for something that's a one-shot use.

    Gyroscope and the central PCB are fairly specialised bits of equipment which are not something I've ever seen in a hobby store myself but you're correct on the rest of the parts. I expect the PCB and gyroscope to become heavily controlled and purchases of those to be scrutinized/monitored by state intelligence services in the near future if not already. You can build really cheap drones with open source kits already

    Consider the conditions of a place where gun violence is ubiquitous and this individual's lived experience there before you criticize the work he has done to help marginalized people survive and arm those who may face revolutionary conditions.

    People who face opression in the USA have been arming themselves at much higher rates recently, do you think they should be subject to laws targeted to disarm them while keeping firearms in the hands of fascists?

    Realistically, can this tactic work at 3-D printing levels in homes? Sounds to me a bit idealistic to think that communists could effectively utilize home 3-D printing in such a way. But I havent thought too much about it. I guess not any less realistic than mass individually produced guns

    A drone is just a bunch of plastic parts, a motor, radio transmitter, simple circuit board ESCs, camera and some wires.

    An entire diy drone project could be produced. The complex parts could also be homemade but require more than a 3d printer. They're all parts you can get for over the counter cash from hobby shops though. What's missing is someone actually putting together the kind of online project guide for it as a genuine tool. There are build your own fpv drone guides but not a "build your own fpv suicide drone" guides.

    The biggest benefit of going this route is cost over the pre-made alternatives, bringing it right down to parts cost would enable people to use it in all kinds of ways.

    I guess I mean like: a drone is useful for a war like Russia-Ukraine for reasons that wouldn't be really relevant for defense of leftists. I feel like I'll be fed-posting if I go too much deeper in my descriptions, but just the scenarios that communists are preparing for defense aren't much similar to the scenarios where drones are now dominating. But that might be a paradigm shift thats just not yet clear in every case..
