Doubt this is anything other than an excuse to further erode civil liberties in the name of "security".

No, but you don't understand, some of the murders committed in Germany in the past couple of years were committed by Muslim foreigners. And all Germany did was give its unconditional support for the genocide of a group of Muslim foreigners.
