It was pretty good! I sat next to a high-school aged kid who seemingly knew nothing about the odyssey yet was arguably the hypest person in the theater going "lets-fucking-go LET'S GOO" whenever they blinded the poor cyclops and was angry as hell at Telemachus (he literally shouted 'DO SOMETHING' during the contest fight) & as a result my experience was heightened.

Definitely recommend seeing it on the biggest screen you can; I went to my local museum's imax which can do 1.43:1 and it was great. There are several scenes where I felt like I was on the damn ship.

No cyclops dong but I was blessed with one ass thanks to Circe my beloved.....

In my experience it depends on the film & the crowd. When I saw Scary Movie 6 last month? Yeah, I expected people to be pretty vocal. Same with when I saw Jackass.

He was young and clearly hyped up because of the film so i let it pass; the middle aged dude sitting in front of us though definitely turned around after the 'DO SOMETHING angry-hex' shout and glared at him but by that point we had like 20 minutes left in the film. I think the fact that he so clearly had never engaged with The Odyssey is what really made it not annoying for me - he let out the most confused 'what the fuck???' when Odysseus shoots the transformed buck on Circe's island & was so mad when the crew are like "why are you saying fuck us for??" after they eat one of Helios' cattle.

I'll always take someone vocally engaging with a film (laughing really loud, shouting at the characters, going "aw hell no" when something scary is about to happen) compared to a bunch of people just blatantly on their phones like how all the college aged teens were doing when I saw Death of Robin Hood the other week and it became apparent to them that the film wasn't gonna be Robin Hood shooting arrows at rich dudes Legolas style for 2 hours.

FWIW he wasn't insanely distracting or anything. Just blurted out a few "what the fucks", the single "let's gooo" when the suitors started dying, and the very funny "DO SOMETHING doggirl-tears" literally 2 scenes before Telemachus starts fighting

it surprised me when i went to go watch a movie in the bronx with the man i was dating at the time. he had dominican heritage, but identifed as black most of the time and i went with him and his family to the movie theater for the first time.

i don't remember the movie, i just remember everyone yelling at the screen and mostly in unison. lol

che-smile See I love shit like that. Obsession and Backrooms at my local theater were riots because people WERE doing that. I love when an audience is completely like "aw fuck no I want to get off this ride", completely makes the movie ticket worth it. It's like whenever everyone starts screaming on a roller-coaster I think; same sort of feeling.
