So are chickens and I can anecdotaly confirm that they lead very cozy lives. Mostly due to me pamperin them a lot. So maybe humans will be allright as well and our robot overlords will pamper us as much as I pamper my chickens.

our robot overlords will pamper us as much as I pamper my chickens

Unfortunately for us humans, the majority of chickens live in horrible conditions in large corporate farms. Should the robots ever start to take over, I hope by that time we will be treating other species better, else they learn from us!

I hate how people say birds are literally dinosaurs. That's like saying homo erectus are still alive today.

[-] sbeak@sopuli.xyz 1 points 20 hours ago

As for birds being dinosaurs, you also have a lot of physical similarities too! The feet of non-avian dinosaurs are similar to those of modern birds with hollow bones, and I think the skulls were similar in shape too. Recently, we have also found evidence of some dinosaurs being feathered. There is also evidence of bird-like behaviours in some dinosaurs, like brooding (e.g. a hen sitting on some eggs) and herding (grouping together)

dinosaurs are a group that includes the subgroup of birds. most dinosaurs are extinct, but birds still exist

homo erectus is a single species within the group known as hominins. most hominins are extinct, but homo sapiens still exists

apples are fruits. I like apples, but that doesn't mean I like every kind of fruit

Too bad, now you, me, and everyone is a fish. All the tetrapods were originally descended from fish (technically, the ancestor to the modern kind of fish), meaning we are closer to bony fish than sharks are!

Mammals (including us humans!), reptiles, dinosaurs (and by extension birds), and amphibians are all FISH!

I have watched the simulated running of various dinosaur species in documentaries such as Jurassic Park.

I have also watched my chickens excitedly run around my back yard.

There is nothing you can say that will convince me birds are not literally dinosaurs.

If you are here asking: "Is this a science meme?"

Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn't need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.

Science isn't a filing cabinet of facts, it's a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what's under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.

We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged, but keep it in good faith and never punch down.
