Nearly 150 electric trucks will deliver groceries to Australian homes in the country’s largest electric truck rollout to date.

Zenobē has leased 148 Foton T5 battery-electric trucks (BETs) to Woolworths, with first deliveries commencing in May and the full fleet rollout expected this year.

Sad fact that these trucks are running on coal in the end.

I meant that most of electricity at night is generated by coal power plants. So ultimately they run on coal. It was a bit of a joke.

Ah, I was going to say tbh even if they do run on coal, it's still better for the environment than running on oil

It needs to be carefully calculated what is better. There is less carbon per joule in oil. But power stations are more efficient than ICUs. But there are transmission and storage losses for electricity. But some electricity comes from wind. But transporting fuel also isn't emission-free. The list goes on. If we only have nuclear, it would solve this dilemma.

I thought it was fairly settled science because petrol cars only use 30% of the energy generated by oil where as EV's are using 90%

Despite the major energy losses, a power plant is still more efficient than a car’s engine. Recall that an internal combustion engine loses around 80% of the energy that goes into it. A coal-burning power plant loses around 68% of its energy. Thus, an EV powered purely by coal still uses less energy than a car powered by gasoline.

    but as you said

But some electricity comes from wind

Yeah, even at our worst times overnight we're not a purely coal powered nation anymore
