How will hasan-smash spin this as he is prepared to die on the Obvious Plant hill.

[-] RION@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago

Apparently he has forsaken the oyster man due to this

My opinion of hasan has dropped significantly ever since 2026 started. Its like he genuinely doesnt give a shit about what happens to anyone outside of the us. Half of his community was against platner since the start because of his war crimes and him being a tool for the empire. Western left hates ice more than their military, even tho the military is a lot worse, they dont care about anyone else other than americans

[-] SocialistVibes01@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 month ago

And that's why, children, it's fair game saying there's no left in the US.

There's a lot of "left-wing progressives" in the US that you could apply this critique to, but doing it to Hasan is kinda wild lol. He shines a light on all kinds of negative US imperial actions, to his own personal detriment. Like, look at all the shit he's gotten for his Palestine coverage.

Yeah, I have some disagreements on him with certain views he has, but this is crazy lol.

[-] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

Nah, Hasan ought to have known better. The totenkoph could not have made matters more plain and obvious. We also ought not let people who are effectively our public representatives off the hook so easily.

I greatly appreciate hasan for his coverage on palestine, and i do agree with him on his "controversial" quotes and thoughts, but my main disagreement with him comes from him not being able to take criticism from his left, trying to reform a nazi party, thinking that reform actually will make the us socialist and that he still supported platner after he became aware of his war crimes. He is the part of the platner left. He didnt give a shit about all the shit platner did before this, he still supported him when he knew that he was a war criminal, but after findong out that he raped an american he changed his tone, thats why i say hes a western supremacist, he just wants the us to be social democratic. Idk he did introduce me to socialism and communism and turned me from a lib to a commie but idk i guess im more to the left of him now? Im just tired of him being the talking head of the dnc at this point

[-] SickSemper@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

and now the rewriting of history commences, we memoryhole this and pretend he was never flipping out on chatters who disagreed with his position on platner

[-] CommieKhinkali@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 month ago

A lot of the dem voters are saying its fake and that collins is worse and shit. Just check the democracy now post on ig and its comments, it is genuinely crazy, they overlook everything. They truly are the blue maga

I think this is just role. He's "mellowed out" to try and exist as that missing part of the radicalization pipeline. You don't have to think he's perfect or anything, but that role does have a major impact on future organizing efforts.

He's also unique in that most people I know who have followed him are now to his left, he doesn't have the rabbit followers that someone like Destiny or Asmongold have who literally do crimes when their god is offended.

[-] somename@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

He was never as hard of a Platner supporter as some of the people you see online. Still too much charitably by far, but he didn’t like endorse him or anything.

[-] brognak@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

If you listen to a lot of interviews with Hasan re:Platner I don't think he ever outright defended him. I do think he softballed his actual thoughts and pivoted to instead say praising Abdul ElSayed in order to not shit talk him overly much publicly because at the end of the day, he was still better than Mills/Collins. I get it and honestly I agree with the strategy, but it definitely chaffed.

[-] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

This is correct. Tbh most of his commentary was similar to ettingermnentum where Platner is a symptom of the Dems being unable to run credible candidates so any person who is anti establishment, anti-zionist, left-coded destroys establishment candidates.

Most of the time he's also pointed to Abdul in Michigan as a far better example of a left candidate. And furthermore, before the accusations there was an argument that if the options are mills, Platner, and collins, well, that's pretty easy math. Obviously DSA/PSL dropped the ball not running someone, but I don't know how organized the orgs are in Maine.

Of course even AES isn't a DSA member like DAC, so obviously more work can be done, but I think Hasan, AOC, etc. Actually get the W here, they never endorsed and treated this shit with the skepticism it deserved.

[-] vapor_body@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago

Well the good news is that Abdul is now fully DNC-approved. The party has a bright future. Love to hear from Felix's nephew

[-] trompete@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

He did worse than endorse him. He called everyone calling out his Platner promotion and excuses wreckers, ultras and feds, and explicitly said he "doesn't care" what the guy did in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He and the other Platner libs made this their hill to die on. Anyone who cares about imperial war crimes and their victims is their enemy, to be relentlessly smeared and mocked. And thus they have chosen a side, the empire's side.
