It seems to me that a lack of understanding of psychology is what gets us into this mess of arguing with maga as we do.
I don't think you can have a productive conversation about politics with a fox news watcher when you mention donald trump or point the blame to another GOP politician. I find it is better to get them to talk about their own ideologies, having them relate to their own observations in the world. It would be best to speak about subjects that aren't spoken about on the "news".
There is an unfortunate bias that people have toward believing the first narrative they hear and it seems to me that trumpers don't have the ability to break out of this bias for w.hatever reason. There is also an appeal to authority that comes with fox news being a news network.
The only power that I see we have as someone arguing against this is the fact that these people are going to believe what is coming out of their own mouth over what they hear. It also seems that media similar to fox news already considers this bias and trys to get people to talk about things that cause confusing arguments and will cause the viewer to say affirmations about what ever politician, news network, or belief, and that becomes more ingrained in their identity.
If you want them to break their relationship with the news, the best way I can see of doing it is having them discredit their news source by their own words.
This is the jist of why I talk about politics with people the way i do. You don't have to agree with someone you only need them talking about things that are based in their reality and not misinformation.
