Gnosticism (from Ancient Greek γνωστικός (gnōstikós) 'having knowledge'; Koine Greek: [ɣnostiˈkos]) is a collection of different religious and philosophical ideas and systems that fully developed by the mid-2nd century among sects of early Christianity and other faiths. It is not a singular, homogeneous tradition or religion, but an umbrella term used by modern scholars to describe different groups and beliefs that shared certain characteristics. These diverse Gnostic groups generally emphasized personal spiritual knowledge (gnosis) above the authority, traditions, and proto-orthodox teachings of organized religious institutions.
TLDR: be spiritual; but also as weird as possible
Rule 0: Don't be a dick.
Tbh I have no idea what you're talking about re YouTube I've just settled into Gnosticism in the past few years when I wanted to reestablish a spiritual belief system for myself outside of my puritan / fundie upbringing and having always felt a strong connection to esoteric spiritual practices.
I spent a long time in dialectal behavior therapy which gave me a really good foundational set of wellness skills that have integrated nicely with things like introspective tarot and it's very easy to integrate Jungian psychology and personality typing into the richer imagery of astrology (it's fairly easy to map an OCEAN type onto an MBTI which is based on Galen's humors alongside astrology anyway so long story short I'm an air type with a little sprinkle of fire and making little sigils out of the planet / sign alignments of my birth chart that suit that has been a really great way to develop my sense of personal identity and then looking at a star chart for a different specific datetime often offers alternative ways to process the event that I might not have originally considered.
TLDR – ESOTERIC
It's probably nowhere as big of a trend as I thought it was. I'm just terminally online and thought anyone connected with Gnosticism would have seen the same discourse as me, my bad.
Not long, did read. As far as esoterica goes that has some of the best aesthetics in my opinion and the philosophy kind of resonates with a current cultural moment. It sounds like it brings you joy and gives meaning, so I guess I'm glad you got into it
😊
I'm a relative newcomer to the gnostic/hermetic/esoteric studies, despite a pretty strictly atheist upbringing. I've always enjoyed fantasy and myth, but have been trying to do more self work and introspection when I came across some works by Manley P Hall, Jung, etc. and enjoy the metaphysical or psychological concepts at play. I think it's been helpful for me while practicing mindfulness and awareness, though the mythos is also pretty rad lol
