So depressing to see this get this many upvotes on lemmy. I want to go back to that brief period where I mistakenly believed that the userbase of lemmy was a bit more intelligent and skeptical than reddit's. Nope, still just voting on gut reactions to headlines on whether they fit confirmation bias or not.
'sure it's just an unsubstantiated fbi tip that doesn't make any sense if you actually read it. but trump bad so it must be true' A random guy making a salacious claim about a former president without any evidence isn't news just because you want to believe it.
+bonus round 'oh you're skeptical of an unsubstantiated salacious claim somebody made about a former president? do you think trump good or something?'
Considering how much information they had linking Epstein and Trump, and the tip told them where bodies are buried, you think they'd at least get some cadaver dogs out to sniff around the 19th hole.
he was already convicted of falsifying business accounts in New York. Its ridiculous that the Supreme Court allowed him to stand for election in 2024
A person can run for election from jail. There’s nothing saying you can’t.
19th? 🤨
I dunno, that's what the tipster claimed.
Maybe they're unfamiliar with the game or misspoke.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the fbi probably needs a higher standard of evidence than "trust me bro" to get a warrant on a freshly out of office former president. Good thing this guy claims to have incriminating recordings of trump and oh wait he conveniently can't produce them, definitely not suspicious. I'm going to assume 'I was in the sinaloa cartel but they let me leave because I was tight with Epstein' guy isn't throwing up even more nutjob red flags.
He never claims he was in the cartel but that he worked with them trafficking teen girls. How do we know he couldn't produce corroborating evidence since the FBI didn't follow up. It's not the job of victims or tipsters to investigate. There's a while Bureau within the Federal government that's supposed to conduct Investigations. That bureau had plenty of evidence for years linking Trump, Maxwell and Epstein.
More, just trusting the government is a very odd choice.
We (most) weren't born into lemmy, the vast majority of us came from reddit.
There is so much wrong with Trump it’s irrelevant if this is true or not. He’s a criminal and belongs in prison
Ok so we agree "some random guy made an unsubstantiated tip to the fbi about a (then) former president" is not news or noteworthy.
It shouldn’t be treated as absolute truth but that doesn’t mean it’s not news or newsworthy. The title should’ve been less clickbaity though, sure.
Yeah, I haven't read the article yet, but the headline is certainly inflammatory. Change it to Biden and add some adrenochrome or satanic panic and it's q-nut BS. I just fucking looove that Blueanon is a thing now. Didn't we learn anything from that?
I guess we learned that people are stupid and gullible.
It makes me feel pretty down because it's so fucking hard to steer through the misinfo anymore. Hell, it could even be true. I'm too tired to dig on this one.
Practice information hygiene and stay skeptical!
