I hope this is better than Bury Me My Love. I think a lot of people not familiar with the situation were able to successfully connect with the protagonist more since she was a kind of westernized, better-off refugee. But at the same time a lot of people thought it was schlock that made the plight of Syrian refugees look like a fun aimless adventure across Europe.

I’m not as hard on it because I think way more people were able to see themselves in her, and that’s important to get the message out there: yes, you too can be a refugee. But y’know, good writing should be able to do that anyway.
