Almost every company has their infra in the cloud now. Its expensive but gives them one click access to hundreds of services. I think Ai will also be amazing for companies. For people? Probably not great. Ai will track and monitor every human. I cant see any other future as long as big tech is driving. permalink fedilink source parent [–] recursivethinking@lemmy.world 50 points 4 months ago* the old crowd is still going strong and have been proven largely correct because what they/we were really against was going from a "you own this software" model to a "perpetual licensing" model with price hikes, lock-in, and everything becoming a service. it's not completely enshittified, there are lots of great cloud-based services. some long-term, some at various stages of the enshittification curve. same with AI. it doesn't all suck, and it won't all suck. but a lot/most of it does and will absolutely suck and it will enshittify many things. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works 48 points 3 months ago So can we fast track the "oh no, they where right after all" and just skip all the bullshit? Plenty of people think their art is awful, even when it isn't, programmers especially so. Its not about just respect for your own art, but respect for everyone else in the art form. If you wrote bad code but put in effort, you still put effort into the art, therefore its not an insult to the medium itself, and the community around it. Furthermore, how do you expect to get better at that art when you have the easel do so much of the painting for you? permalink fedilink source parent

I might be the sort of person to keep a 24u rack in their closet, but you shouldn't have to to reap the benefits. I mean Jesus, even cloud providers know this.
