The one child policy was supposed to cause this, no? Shouldn't China be used to a falling birth and population rate? Why is it such a calamity now?

    one child wasn't about falling birthrates but to mitigate out of control rates. when they removed the policy in 2016, they wanted to see an increase.. that's not happening. that's the issue.

    it wasn't implemented to cause this scenario. this scenario is because nobody can afford shit anymore because greed, and everyone is mentally and physically exhausted 🫩

    Every generation in China can afford more than their parents at that age, wages have increased while prices remain very cheap. Some days I eat all my meals for less than 2USD, including coffee. I'm currently in a 24th floor homestay apartment next to the train station/subway paying 9USD a night.

    everyone is mentally and physically exhausted

    This. Young people are experiencing insane pressure from their parents, competitive schools, and a job market that just doesn't have enough jobs. The traditional social perspectives of the older generations doesn't help either.

    because China has an increasingly aged population that lives on retirement money from the government. think Social Security. that system is dependent on people who are still working paying into it. because of the one child policy that was abolished a decade or so ago, there are less young people than old. meaning not enough people paying taxes to support the older population.

    idk how they intend to address the issue, but I'm sure they have a lot of people trying to figure it out.

    It's the same for all western countries too, well, most countries in the world. And guess what old people are voting for at the polls? It isn't sacrificing anything of their own for a brighter future for the youth, that's for sure.

    well, it's a bit worse for some countries. South Korea, for example, is already doomed. they've passed the point of no return and can't reverse the population collapse. I'm not a person who is educated enough to give a guess as to what that will mean for them in several decades, but I imagine it's nothing good. the country likely won't survive as it is now.

    China can still avert disaster, but it's still gonna be uncomfortable for them until that aging population starts, well, not being there anymore.
