I don't really get the naming scheme. Wario is Wario because W is M upside down, and when they wanted a Luigi they somehow figured it couldn't be ⌈uigi because who knows how to pronounce that. So you have two different naming convetions now, one is using Wa as a suffix and one is using letters upside down, but all the fan takes on this are Wa-name, even though you could totally say beach. Which leads me to believe you guys think Mario is called Rio, because Wario isn't called Wamario.

Or is it like Stonehenge where the original is the only one that doesn't follow the format?!

actually Ackshyully, Wario and Waluigi both follow the same naming scheme: portmanteaus of {悪|わる}い warui 'bad' + Mario/Luigi. The upside-down M is just a happy coincidence. The problem is that these are just about the only names in the universe you can make good warui-portmanteaus out of.

I have been owned. Utterly and completely. However using Adam Connover implies all of this could just be some bullshit you made up.

it's common knowledge in the mario trivia stuff

Hence my admission of ownage. I expect Erika3sis knows what she's talking about, she's hexbear's premiere language nerd (positive) as far as I'm concerned. I'm just commenting on Adam Connover.
