Its really good. Six factions, different game modes like Arena, Classic, Single Hero and Scenarios, plus a campaign. At the moment only campaign Act 1 is available, but that is already 10+ hours. I think there are also hotseat and multiplayer modes. There is a ladder as well which I have not tried yet. Some of the music is really nice and I like the colorful art style. Each faction also has around 18 heroes with different skills.
Each of the factions feels pretty unique and has 7 units . Each of the 7 units has 2 upgraded version with different stats and / or skills.
The game was really hard at release, but they hotfixed that so easy and normal are now doable for noobs like me.
The only thing missing (for me) at the moment is proper team modes and co-op, but that is currently the developers number one priority.
Reviews are very positive at around 89 percent as of writing, and the game seems to have a bright future ahead, with over 500,000 copies sold in just a couple of days. Long-term support is basically guaranteed.
All of this is coming from someone who does not have much nostalgia for the series beyond playing Heroes 5 a bit. Even a lot of the grognards seem to agree that this is the best entry in the series in a very long time
I havent really clicked with Songs of Conquest kinda bounced off of it. But you are right thats a game I need to give another try.
I’m glad this genre is getting some movement, I remember playing something similar called warlords 3 like 20 years ago and being into it, now there’s songs of conquest and this game, wonder how long they plan to be in EA
I really like it. It's not just aping H3. It's more distinct from any HOMM than they are from each other, except for 4. Lots of unique and clever mechanics that make it its own beast in a way that my best friend and I, who grew up on these games, really clicked with.
