Luckily she gets better
They knew they fucked up a good character. Then they reused it on Midna, who also goes princess mode and changes personality. It blows my mind people think Zelda has a good story or characters. They have common archetypes that they reuse each game
That's basically Nintendo's whole shtick. Instead of spending time and effort on story/characters they spend it on gameplay instead. Same deal with Mario. Reusable characters and stories that enable the team to focus on mechanics instead.
It used to baffle me that people paid attention to the stories behind games in the first place. Sure, there's some kind of excuse for the game. But actually getting into it?
It's a platformer, who cares about the lore of the game world?
I've always had this read that video game stories can make a game a lot better if they're good, and make it a lot worse if they're bad, but if they're just kinda generic people are perfectly fine to ignore them.
