I have a preorder for one. And I've been debating the best solution for a "stereo" Right now I'm literally thinking just a Bluetooth speaker that supports multiple devices so the other two drivers in the family can also use it.

But is there anything more interesting? Like a tablet with a simple card providing wifi hotspot maybe... Or a modified steamdeck with a controller kind of thing. I'd love some creatice ideas

There are mountains of cheap Chinese Android Auto/Apple CarPlay devices you can just shove in there. That's my plan. I assume that's what you mean by "stereo".

I'm hoping they will add an option for pre-installed audio wiring, and I can just throw in a DIN stereo and speakers, but probably just wishful thinking there...

Is there even a spot to "shove it?" You'd also need to wire power (constant and switched), ground, and all the speaker wiring plus mount speakers inside somehow. It sounds like their intention is literally using a Bluetooth speaker for the base model without a stereo or infotainment.

I'm more curious how they're getting around the backup camera mandate since the only option is a phone/tablet mount, but even with that you won't be able to display a backup camera even if that hardware is included.

Most of them mount on the dash. And they're USB-powered, which the Slate should have for the phone already. I'm sure it will have 12V outlets somewhere as well. And if not, they're easy enough to add.

Yes, it appears their intention is for owners to literally use a Bluetooth speaker. Not really acceptable, but I guess better than nothing.

That's a good question about the backup camera though.

Without knowing much about the truck, my assumption would be that the image is displayed on the rearview mirror or on the dash itself.

After a quick search, it looks like the image will be displayed on the dash screen. I'm not a fan of digital dashes but they make implementation of something like this fairly easy.

There's no OEM screen in the entire vehicle. If you see screens, those are tablets and phones, for demonstration purposes.

So i googled the question specifically and it looks like the backup camera display will pop up on the instrument cluster according to a reddit post citing Car and Driver.

Yeah, sorry, there is a a screen for the instrument cluster. That's not what I meant.

Sorry I was just trying to reply to the latest comment in the chain not necessarily to your comment directly. I had the same understanding as you that they specifically opted out of any screens in the vehicle.

I had not thought about the backup camera. I wonder if any other integration options will be available with the tiny screen its got available. They said during the q&a recently that they would be releasing .STL files. Maybe they offer something for din and double din units.
