When my wife was pregnant I went to my director and said, "I would like to take a couple of weeks or maybe a month off to help my wife after she has the baby." He asked, "What are you entitled to under the collective bargaining agreement?" I said, "The parents can share 9 months of parental leave but she doesn't work so that means I can take up to 9 months." he replied, "Then take the 9 months. It wasn't available when my wife had kids but I would love to have taken it. Take every day you're entitled to." So I did, once for each of my two kids. It wasn't a fucking summer vacation.
