The empire of Japan did fairly well after the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. The empire of Japan also did great after WW1 come to think of it. The states did enjoy the Spanish–American war result. It was during the first world war that all of the European powers spent literally all their money fighting each other, with both sides then reaching out to the United States for loans to continue fighting each other, which America was of course happy to oblige.
