I feel this does a disservice to the term "refugee." The vast majority of Americans who are declaring they want to leave America over the current political situation would not remotely qualify for that.

You sure about that? Folks are getting labeled domestic terrorists and extrajudicial executions are happening in the streets. Just because it isn't happening near you...

Yes, I'm sure about that. There've been a few dozen notable deaths across a 350-million-person country. That may be shocking for you, but for the places that most refugees are coming from that level of danger is nothing.

I'm not saying "oh, everything's fine down there in the US, quit complaining." You've got a serious problem and you need to fix it. But have some perspective. Before you flee to another country consider fleeing to California.

My Hispanic family in LA isn’t feeling too secure right now, especially since the local superintendents house and office were just raided by the FBI, apparently looking for students’ migration status.

Yes, things could be worse. It’s fucking dangerous to be an immigrant/poc/disabled/lgbtq though.

How is this fundamentally different than what we already had in the US? Not like this is the first time US LEO have killed someone, not the first time peaceful protestors have been treated like terrorists by the FBI, local law enforcement, etc
