Your weapon choices should flow from your expectations for their use. Any rifle is better than no rifle, and this one isn't even a dinosaur like a fuckin Mosin or something.

Yes, optics are definitely worth it and you should get them on your weapons if you can. I will say that given the current situation/conditions and likely zones of potential armed conflict... I would recommend shorter weapons. Something that you can shoulder, but small. Pistol-caliber carbines, Uzi/mac-type guns etc. Concealable and maneuverable for ambushes and quick raids.
