One particularly brutal review came from Nick Hilton, film critic for the Independent, who said that the first lady came off in the film as “a preening, scowling void of pure nothingness” who leads a “vulgar, gilded lifestyle.”

Hilton added that the film is so terrible that it fails even at being effective propaganda and is likely to be remembered as “a striking artifact... of a time when Americans willingly subordinated themselves to a political and economic oligopoly.”

I think we can officially conclude 2026 is The Year Of The Scowling Void Of Pure Nothingness

Unfortunately, boomer women have made it a box office hit.

I have zero doubts that MAGA money is being spent on buying out showings and that the propaganda machine is running at 110%. I also do not doubt that a lot of boomer and older Gen-X/Jones MAGA women in are going to see it. These are not.mutually exclusive things.

EDIT: the article is from The Hollywood Reporter, which is definitely not right leaning.

You'd like to think so, but my hardcore maga step mom and sister are all over fb singing it's praises on high. Some people are so invested in this shit, that they cannot admit the truth.

It’s like those religious movies where people buy up tickets en masse but no one actually goes to the movie. Or those political books where the party buys up boxes and boxes of them to get the book on the best seller list, but no one actually reads it.

Just for giggles I checked my local theater yesterday afternoon. There were 6 seats purchased for the 6:30 show, and, as of 9:15, none for the 9:30 showing. On a Saturday night.

Its official budget was $40 million (presumably before marketing), so I'm not sure that this can be called a hit on an $8 million box office

I wonder if it's like book sales, where a publisher or other entity buys a ton of copies to make it a "Best-seller". Are the seats being filled, or are the tickets just bought out to make it appear more successful?

There’s Craigslist ads paying people to go see it

Yes. Conservative groups are buying out whole theatres that then show the movie to empty seats.
