The thing that angers me the most about it is the fact that Americans don't even seem to consider the annexation threats a factor in why Canadians are angry at them. The amount of propaganda your country pumps into its people means that a majority of even the most progressive people are thoroughly brainwashed into believing that getting to be American is actually a blessing I can assure you that I don't have anything nice to say about the US no matter the hypothetical scenario permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [+] DylanMc6@lemmy.ml -6 points 8 months ago (2 children) [removed by mod] permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 8 points 8 months ago (1 child) I can't answer any of your questions unfortunately. I don't know what repercussions the UK winning the war of 1812 would bring but my uneducated knee-jerk opinion would be that I think North America would have been better off as individual colonies turned countries rather than massive states. I think an EU style system with much smaller countries would have prevented what the US became. But again, that's just my uneducated opinion and I haven't put a lot of thought into it For the communism stuff: I am not nearly well read enough about it to recommend anything permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [+] DylanMc6@lemmy.ml -2 points 8 months ago* [removed by mod] permalink fedilink source parent
