Dear leftists and liberals,

Do we think immigrants should be deported for having political viewpoints we disagree with?

Thanks.

No. I think they should be punished for actively and knowingly supporting an openly fascist regime that persecutes and commits war crimes against its own people. And if deportation is the avenue for that punishment, so be it.

Deportation is not and can not be a punishment. The word you are looking for is exile. People who are here without permission do not deserve to be punished, and I had my way then deportation would be an offer and not forced. People should not be able to be illegal. If deportation is a punishment, then life for everyone becomes a lot scarier. I agree supporting facism should be punishable, but deportations are not something we should associate with punishment.

    This is a selective quote.

The whole thought experiment for the Paradox does require us to take time to determine if someone is truly intolerant versus ignorant. After they have established that they are intolerant then the recommended conclusion holds.

That said, in the context of Nikki Minaj, she has definitely shown herself to be intolerant (probably due to willful ignorance caused by... You guessed it... Wealth echo chamber).

Nice to see you again SARGE.

The Trump regime started this shit and she's pro Trump. I reckon she should be forced to eat her own dog food, and so should all the MAGAts - until they all turn against Trump and we can all agree to go back to the rule of law.

Pretty hilarious how lemmy thinks everything will return to normal after an "election".

It's delusional. People are delusional in the US thinking simply voting will fix things. The system has been rigged historically and will be significantly rigged in the upcoming elections, if we even have one. Mail in voting is already being taken over too.

Simply voting and peaceful protest is not enough to change the current trajectory. I'd love to be wrong but I don't think I am.

  • Do you have a better solution?

We know it’s rigged. We’ve known it’s rigged for decades. Until the system is changed so the states with tiny populations don’t have an outsized influence on things, it’s not going to get fixed.

Saying “peaceful protest isn’t enough” is also hand waving away what happens when protests aren’t peaceful. You’re essentially saying “people need to hurry up and volunteer to be brutally killed to change things,” and no matter how patriotic somebody may be that’s a pretty tough sell.

We’re not delusional. We see how bad it is. There are a lot of people protesting and taking action every single day across the country, but it’s harder to see a) because they don’t get much coverage from the media, and b) because while the total number of people protesting is quite large, they’re spread out across the entire nation and that’s hard to capture in a picture. Add into that the surveillance networks working to identify and punish those people, and there’s an additional chilling effect which reduces the overall visibility of those protests.

It’s called a joke. Leftists and liberals are not calling for the deportation of all immigrants with right wing views. This petition, which everyone who signed understands has zero chance of being acted upon, was to remind one specific high profile MAGA celebrity that she is exactly the type of person her new “friends” hate. If she wasn’t famous, they’d be trying to ship her back to Trinidad or to some foreign prison.

Yes. And when MAGA is no longer a thing, everyone one of them should be scooped up by ICE and deported to Russia.

Preferably from 5000 ft above land without a parachute.

And then every ice member criminally prosecuted after.

That's some serious rage. I posit that it might be useful to step back a moment, center yourself, and consider that is both perpetuating the hate and doing serious harm to yourself mentally.

I'm not saying the source of the rage is not that serious, only that you risk becoming a mirror image of what you rage against.

I'm also not singling you out. I'm hoping others with similar justified outrage will read this and protect themselves from becoming their hate. Don't let them take your humanity.

It's called "taste of their own medicine". We could be angry at a legit good option to remove troubling people. Piers Morgan can go fuck off back to England. Jordan Peterson can get fucked back to Canada. Andrew Tate can go back to the swamp and stop being anorexic Shrek. We can finally get rid of problems that doesn't require incarceration or dead bodies.

Good god no, don't send Jordan Peterson back to us, unless it's via boat, and a very leaky one at that.

No. This type of state violence shouldn't be inflicted on anyone regardless. When it comes to defending people from being the target of this state violence though, she is at the bottom of the list being both a supporter of it herself and unimaginably wealthy

There is nothing wrong with going by the current admins playbook while they are still in charge and apparently make the rules. Unless you only want 'the left' deported while MAGA is under protection by the (old) laws, you will end up in a country of pure MAGA.

Or do we think this is not, in fact, a serious demand of the US administration but the exasperated reaction of desperate people who can't see any other way to be heard anymore but to be blunt and cruel?

I simultaneously think it’s not a serious demand and that this administration could take it seriously and act on it.

This won’t change the current administration’s mind; it’s doing their work for them.

I mean, even if they took this seriously, she's wealthy and powerful enough to live. So at least it's definitely not punching down on anyone, that's something.

I don't see how this does their work for them though?

The question really should be: If Nikki Minaj has American citizenship, why should be she be deported?

Should Nikki Minaj face consequences for saying bat shit insane conversative talking points? Yes. Those consequences shouldn't come at stripping away someone's rights. As soon as that it happens, no one has rights. Everyone has privileges.

She's said before on record that she isn't an American citizen, and complained that she pays taxes but hasn't even gotten 'honorary citizenship' for it. I don't know if she's just full of crap but she's literally used those words.
