relationship between liberalism and fascism
Well what I see from the other side of the Atlantic is that the Democratic Party largely see themselves as left of centre or centre in America, are right of centre by European standards, apart from a handful of progressives who come across as centre from where I'm sat.
They've had a couple of years in the last few decades where the Republicans weren't able to block them, during which, instead of universal socialised healthcare they implemented a bunch of subsidies that perpetuate the harmful profit motive in the healthcare industry so that the government is spending roughly the same per capita as socialised healthcare costs in the UK, but the bat majority of Americans are spending the same amount themselves and some are selling their homes to provide cancer car for their parents.
The rest of government is captured by the very right wing Republican party, who are responsible in my view for some of the worst excesses of capitalism around the world.
Like you, I blame the Democratic party for not having a more left wing agenda and not using what little power they've had to make things better for the American people, but unlike you, I don't blame them for the actions of their opponents, the Republicans.
