The new characters in LOST who were part of the plane crash but only introduced in Season 3. Everyone hated them immediately, and just when they get their backstory and have a bit of character, they're killed off halfway through the season.

Well there was the whole other tail section, but I was talking about 2 characters who were part of the main cabin section and retconned to interact with the main characters from season 1 & 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikki_and_Paulo#Reception

No, people were supposed to like them. They were killed off in s really horrible way because the audience hated them.
