Nature isn't really a western journal in any meaningful sense. Scientific publishing is pretty international.

Also this isn't the nature, it's nature's open access journal which is a scam by which researchers pay huge amounts of money to have unpaid researchers review their article for free and nature doesn't paywall it as thanks.

Scientific publishing is in the toilet. Science is deeply hierarchical and metric driven, actual science is done by the idealistic and the entrenched, or by accident by people climbing the ladder.

    It's an originally British journal, owned by a British company, owned by a British-German parent company. The vast, vast majority of the editors are born in, educated in, or employed in western countries, mostly all 3 from what I can tell.

    Yes, I pointed this out in my comment as well. It's all a scam lmao, they want to have it both ways - a prestigious journal and infinite money from pay-to-publish attached to the name of the prestigious journal.
